Emergency Water – Water provided when we cannot supply water

If the area where you live loses access to drinking water, either due to damage to the pipeline network or because the water has become contaminated and is no longer drinkable, Oskarshamn Municipality will provide emergency water tanks if the issue cannot be resolved within a reasonable time.

In a situation where there is a water shortage, rationing applies, and the water need is estimated to be 3 to 5 liters per person per day.

Where are the emergency water tanks placed?

Here you can see a map of the locations of the water tanks.

Who gets water first?

Those most vulnerable in the absence of water will be given water first. Our special care facilities, where the elderly or sick are cared for, will therefore be the first to receive water tanks. Depending on the extent of the issue, it may take a shorter or longer time for all predetermined locations to have tanks in place.

How do I collect water?

You should bring your own water containers to collect water. The emergency water tanks are refilled continuously as long as there is a need. In a situation where there is a water shortage, rationing applies, and the water need is estimated to be 3 to 5 liters per person per day.

What should I do if I need to use the toilet at home?

If you live in a house, urinate in your garden. Collect rainwater or take seawater in a bucket or watering can, and use it to flush your toilet. Do not use drinking water to flush the toilet.

What should I do if the water has become contaminated?

If water is available from the tap but has become contaminated, the water should be boiled thoroughly and allowed to cool before using it for cooking or drinking.

If it becomes necessary for the entire municipality or parts of it to boil water, we will inform you via SMS, P4 Kalmar radio, our website, social media, and local press.
